The “Funds 4 Food” campaign at Puckett’s 5th & Church will end this week, and we are proud to say that the team is SO CLOSE to reaching its ambitious goal to provide 40,000 meals to local families struggling with hunger through Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
Rachel Layton, our marketing director, said that the final push toward the goal is crucial!
“It’s been amazing seeing the outpouring of support this campaign has received from both locals and tourists alike,” she said. “This town does a great job of caring for the needy, and I look forward to seeing the enthusiasm continue as we enter our final week!”
The month-long campaign, which started April 1, has given diners the opportunity to add an extra $1 to their total bill to help fund meals for those in need. In addition, Puckett’s parent company, A. Marshall Family Foods, has pledged to match each donation up to $5,000. Since Second Harvest can provide four meals per dollar, that means we’re shooting to give 40,000 meals to those who need them the most!
According to Second Harvest Food Bank, one in seven people — including one in five children — struggle with hunger in Middle Tennessee, and nearly 15 percent of local residents are unable to regularly access the food they need to be healthy.
“Most people don’t realize that so many in our area go hungry on a daily basis,” said Kyle Williams, senior manager at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. “We are blessed to be in a community where companies like Puckett’s help to shed light on the issue and are eager to help give back.”
Founded in 1978, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee works to solve hunger issues in Middle and West Tennessee. Second Harvest collects, sorts and distributes food and personal care products to more than 490 partner agencies throughout 46 counties. Their partner agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, foster care facilities, senior centers, group homes and youth enrichment programs.
